Alfred Cassar has a volunteering background of over 20 years; assisting with many community services. He has been volunteering with the Surfers Paradise Alliance for 8 years as one of their Surfers Paradise Guides.
“I love Surfers Paradise and needed something to do as a regular activity and give back to the community,” he said.
The Surfers Paradise Guides act as ambassadors for the city by assisting visitors, local residents and businesses with information about upcoming events, entertainment and shopping in the city. Alfred has found the role to be a gratifying experience; his favourite part is seeing the smiles and approval from the visitors he has helped.
“I try to be a role model and set an example which I find really satisfying. The service is appreciated by all,” he said.
“I find volunteering very rewarding and a good part of my routine. At 82 years old I hope I can keep going for a few more years.”
Alfred encourages everyone who is interested in volunteering to give it a go and experience the benefits it brings.
“It is a worthwhile experience that allows you to keep learning and get inspired. There are many volunteer vacancies available with the Surfers Paradise Guides.”
