Lyn Lane has been volunteering at John Flynn Private Hospital for 9 years but has an overall volunteering experience of nearly 17 years.
“A friend of mine working at the John Flynn hospital encouraged me to start volunteering there. I have also previously spent 7 years as a Cancer Council volunteer,” she said.
She volunteers her time every Wednesday as one of the Hospital’s Volunteer Team Leaders. She also helps out at all fundraising events and assists with the hospitals annual Anzac day services.
“My role as a volunteer involves directing visitors to medical rooms and helping patients pack their belongings and escort them to reception,” she said.
Lyn has always worked in the public and love meeting people, which is one of her favorite parts about volunteering at the Hospital.
“My favorite part about volunteering is making the patients and visitors smile. It means so much to help them in any way,” she said.
Volunteering has been an overall rewarding experience for Lyn and has had a significant impact on her life. She encouraged others to start volunteering.
“Volunteering is an important part of my life. I enjoy giving back to the community and helping others,” she said.
“If you have a can do attitude and want to give back then you should definitely give volunteering a go.”
