After taking a short break, Liz Bilson returned to volunteer for Volunteering Services Australia in December 2017 as a Receptionist and a Retail Assistant for VSA’s Charity Store, Memento.
“I wanted to give back to the community while keeping connected with people,” Liz said.
She takes on many responsibilities in both roles, both involving customer service and assisting members of the community.
“My role as a receptionist is to meet and greet everyone who comes into the office as assist them with any questions to queries they have. At memento I am responsible for retail duties such as handling cash and eftpos, rotating new stock and offering assistance to customers,” she said.
Liz has found her time volunteering to be an enjoyable experience and believes that she has made a positive impact on herself and others.
“By volunteering, I am able make someone’s day better by listening and helping them,” she said.
“It gives me an added element to my life. I enjoy talking and interacting with people and volunteering allows me to do this.”
Liz encourages everyone who is interested in volunteering to take the next step and give it a go.
“It’s a unique experience and you will get a lot of satisfaction from giving someone else a little bit of your time.”
