Local small business One Power Solar and Electrical have put their Santa hats on early. By selecting three local charities on the Gold Coast and paying for their previous month’s electricity bill. The Small Business operator has been giving back to the local community each Christmas for the last few years and wanted to donate their money in a beneficial way, that would directly assist the organisations.
Sparks flew when the three organisations were contacted. Volunteering Services Australia (VSA), RSPCA and The Animal Welfare League. All based on the Gold Coast.
“We all experience large power bills throughout the year and they can sometimes be overwhelming. Especially for not for profit organisations, and especially around Christmas time.” Said Co-Owner, James Strathdee of One Power Solar and Electrical.
“Being locals it’s really gratifying to know that we’ve helped out in a way that might relieve some of the stress at such a festive time of the year.” Said Co-Owner, Sean Barry of One Power Solar and Electrical.
When VSA were contacted they were a little apprehensive. After all, it is not every day, completely out of the blue, this act of kindness happens.
“As we begin to wind down for the year, we were taken by surprise with One Power’s kind offer. This generosity doesn’t happen every day and I dare say, some of us were a little sceptical.” Said Mark Madden, Transport Services Supervisor, VSA.
“We are so grateful for this kind act. We have a large building that generates large electricity bills monthly. To have this taken care of, relieves some of the stresses, and has given us a spring in our step.” Said Mark.
VOLUNTEERING SERVICES AUSTRALIA (VSA) is an initiative of Volunteering Gold Coast Inc. It is the largest volunteer resource centre in Australia, and is one of the top three community transport operators in the country for aged care and people living with disabilities. They are an NDIS provider and have outreach programs across the Gold Coast, Ipswich/Jimboomba and Launceston, TAS.
