Volunteering Services Australia Launceston has acknowledged volunteers in the Launceston community for International Volunteer Day.
A celebratory morning tea was held at the TasTafe Alanvale Campus on December 5, 2018 from 10am – 11:30am.
“International Volunteer Day is one day of the year where we can acknowledge the tremendous amount of time and support that volunteers provide for the community. We were very excited to be holding our annual celebrations for the day,” said Sue Musgraves, Community Engagement Officer of Volunteering Services Australia – Tasmania.
In attendance were members of local organisations including the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Community Care Tasmania, National Trust of Australia, VFC Services and the University of Tasmania as well as Launceston City Council Mayor, Albert Van Zetten, who awarded Volunteering Services Australia’s Classic Volunteer award.
The Classic Volunteer award was awarded to Grant “Curly” Mitchell, who was nominated by the members of the Launceston Tornadoes Basketball club for his continuous time and dedication to the club. The award included a 7-day holiday of his choice thanks to VSA sponsor Classic Holidays.
“Grant has been a key member of the Launceston Tornadoes Basketball club, donating his time to help the team with setting up seating and signage for game events, packing up at the end of the game and providing transport for the team to games. It was a pleasure for us to award him with the International Volunteer Day award,” said Sue.
