High School teacher, Bryce Francis, has a passion for helping others, particularly the youth.
“From a very young age I knew that I wanted to be part of an industry that enabled me to help people in meaningful way. I have always loved the idea of helping young people and found that teaching was the best way to achieve this,” He said.
Driven by this passion, he has been volunteering his time as a Music Mentor for the Youth Music Venture for over 2 years.
“I participated in the Youth Music Venture program in 2012 and saw first-hand how helpful it was for youth on the Gold Coast. This inspired me to come back and volunteer as a mentor in 2016,” he said.
“As a volunteer I help kids form bands and mentor them over a 12 week program. We help them in areas such as musicianship, team work and performance craft while also focusing on improving the well-being of the participant that join the program. We use music to address and teach life skills,” he said.
During his time volunteering, Bryce has witnessed many stand-out moments and feels a lot of joy knowing he’s making a positive impact on others.
“The final performance at the Currumbin RSL is a stand out moment each year. The joy it brings me to see these young musicians grow so much over the 12 weeks is indescribable. They grow so much together, forming friendships while developing as musicians and individuals,” he said
Bryce enjoys his time volunteering and is a strong advocate for members of the community to join in and donate the time as well.
“Volunteering is such a rewarding experience. I find so much joy and satisfaction in being able to share my passion with young people of the Gold Coast,” he said.
“2018 will be my third year as a volunteer and I have no plans on stopping anytime soon.”
