Revving up for one of the busiest years on the Gold Coast has never been more exciting. With the City of Gold Coast hosting the Guinness Record attempt on Surfers Paradise Beach this Sunday 18 February.
As part of the Sand Safari Arts Festival, the Surfers Paradise Alliance, with the help of over 1000 participants, will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most sandcastles built in one hour.
The current record was created in 2013, which saw 2,230 sandcastles built in one hour in Germany. The event is hoping to build 3000 sandcastles in one hour. If achieved, the Gold Coast community will become a record breaking city and make international history.
Participants are able to register in teams or solo under three categories: ‘Deadly Serious’, ‘Agile & Abled’ and ‘Family Fun’, so families and people of all ages and fitness abilities are welcomed to participate and have a fun day out.
There will also be many volunteers in attendance working with the Surfers Paradise Alliance staff to ensure the day runs smoothly. After the event, participants and volunteers will be treated to an after party sausage sizzle thanks to sponsor Woolworths Surfers Paradise.
This event will be a day of serious fun and history in the making. Registrations are still open until Saturday, 17 February. If you wish be a volunteer, you can find more information via Volunteering Services Australia, and for the event information visit the City of Gold Coast.
