Volunteering Services Australia celebrates this International Volunteer Day with expanding offices, increased services and overall growth in Tasmania, thanks to extended funding for the next 3.5 years.

In the last financial year Volunteering Services Australia has assisted 1005 people towards volunteering, 235% above the target set by Federal Government funding. It provided personalised assistance to 36 different community organisations in the Launceston area and provided training to 371 volunteers and 31 volunteering managers in the community.

“We are delighted to announce funding for the next 3.5years that will cement growth in the volunteering sector for Launceston, Tasmania and of course Volunteering Services Australia” said Richard Patterson – CEO Volunteering Services Australia.

“My visit on 8 December to acknowledge all the volunteers, members and partners VSA have established over the last 12 months will be even more gratifying. Confirming Launceston TAS Tafe as the VSA Head Office in Tasmania and Burnie as the Volunteering Recruitment Centre, planning and community collaboration will be high on the agenda for us in 2018” Said Richard.

A celebratory morning tea will be held to recognise International Volunteer Day for Tasmanian volunteers with high profile guests including members of Parliament:  MP Ross Hart and MP Michelle O’Byrne represented by Shannon Anis, MP Sarah Courtney represented by Karen Hodgetts and Launceston City Council represented by Sarah McCormack. Along with members from National Trust, YMCA, TABIS, Launceston Airport, Avidity Training, Red Cross, Beaconsfield Child and Family Centre, Key Assets and TAFE.

“It is humbling to reward and recognise Tasmania’s volunteering sector at this year’s International Volunteer Day Event.  It highlights how important volunteering is and how community and collaboration can be a major force.” Richard said.
