Volunteers will gather together this week to celebrate National Volunteer Week. The annual celebration is held across the country from the 8th–14th of May.

Gold Coast community and business leaders assembled yesterday, Monday 8th of May at Southern Cross Austero, to launch National Volunteer Week festivities, celebrating and recognising volunteer achievements with volunteers and staff from Volunteering Services Australia, the largest volunteer resource centre of its kind in Australia.

“National Volunteer Week is the biggest celebration on the calendar for volunteers across the country. The event was a great opportunity for organisations and individuals to thank volunteers and to let them know their hard work is appreciated and does not go unnoticed,” said Richard Patterson, Chief Executive Officer of Volunteering Services Australia.

“Volunteering Services Australia is extremely proud to recognise not only the contribution of its volunteers but the hard work and dedication of volunteer across the Gold Coast.”

Long-time sponsors of Volunteering Services Australia, Classic Holidays, joined the national volunteer resource centre in its celebration by recognising selected local volunteers as Volunteering Services Australia Classic Heroes, rewarding them with a voucher for a week holiday anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.

Annette Baker a volunteer ambassador from Gold Coast Airport was recognised for her dedication as a volunteer along with Café Trolley volunteer for Gold Coast Health Pamela Malzard and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Duty Volunteer Margaret Preston.

“Volunteering Services Australia is extremely grateful to Classic Holidays for their ongoing support and recognition of the dedication and hard work of volunteers, who donate their time without any expectation of thanks or praise,” Mr Patterson explained.

“Pamela, Annette and Margaret are all worthy recipients of the VSA Classic Hero Awards. These women have been volunteering to improve the Gold Coast community for a long period of time with enthusiasm, passion and dedication.”
